‘Top Gun: Maverick’ returns to top of UK home entertainment sales chart in early 2023

Paramount Home Entertainment Top Gun: Maverick entered 2023 at the top of the Official Film Chart as the UK’s best-selling home entertainment release until 4 January. Tom Cruise’s sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun, had finished No. 2 the last week of 2022 behind the eternal Christmas classic from Warner Bros. homeentertainment, Elfwho dropped to 7th place.

maverick ended 2022 as the highest-grossing theatrical release with $1.48 billion in ticket sales worldwide.

Rounding out the home entertainment sales podium was Warner Bros.’ best-selling 2022 release. HomeEntertainment: The Batmanand Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Jurassic World Dominion. Collectively, the three films have spent 66 weeks on the sales chart since their retail release.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s action comedy, High-speed train increased its sales seven places to No. 4, while Warner’s biopic Elvis remained stable at No. 5, finishing ahead of the studio Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets at No. 6.

Breaking into the Top 10 for the very first time was Paramount’s horror film, Smile at #8. Sosie Bacon plays Dr. Rose Cotter, who experiences terrifying events she cannot explain, after witnessing a traumatic incident involving a patient.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Spider-Man: No Coming Homejumped 12 places to No. 9, while Universal Downton Abbey: A New Era returned to the Top 10.
