Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft and Nintendo will skip E3 2023, IGN sources say [Update]

Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft and Nintendo will not be attending E3 2023, according to an IGN report citing “several knowledgeable sources”.

While Microsoft recently confirmed that it will be “returning to Los Angeles for our annual showcase this summer,” it didn’t say if it would be as part of E3 2023.

Speaking to IGN last week, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said he was planning his showcase at a “convenient time for press and even consumers”, suggesting it would be held around the same time as E3 2023.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has not attended an E3 since E3 2018.

Neither the Entertainment Software Association, the organization that runs E3, nor any of the three platform holders have commented on IGN’s report.

E3 2023 will take place June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Learn more here.

Update on 01/31/23 at 7:00 p.m.: The Entertainment Software Association responded to IGN’s report, but neither confirmed nor denied its claims.

As you probably saw, IGN published an E3 article last night. While we’re unable to comment on the specific claims in the article, we wanted to share our commitment to moving forward with E3.

E3 has a rich history within our industry, and we’re always excited to feel the passion for the show and hear what it means to different people. Relaunching a show after a three-year hiatus and a global pandemic was always going to have its challenges, which is why we conducted extensive research (in consultation with ESA member companies) to identify the best partner to produce the E3. By choosing ReedPop as our partner, we were able to tap into their rich history of hosting popular industry events, like PAX, and broader mainstream trade shows, like Comic-Con.

They have made great strides in redesigning the event and have received tremendous support from industry companies of all sizes who are not only thinking about E3 2023, but also how E3 s integrates into marketing plans for 2024 and beyond.

It is important to note that even if the show evolves and adapts, it will not have an impact on the heart of ESA’s work for its member companies. Our priority remains the defense of your political interests at the state and federal levels.

We’ll share E3 news and developments as they become available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me. We thank you for your continued support.

Xbox, meanwhile, is reported by IGN to be working with ReedPop to host a separate physical showcase at the Los Angeles Convention Center the weekend before E3 2023.
