Pamela Anderson “Raw and Honest” Netflix Documentary: First Look Inside

When Hulu created Pam and Tommy, the scripted television series chronicling the most traumatic chapter of Pamela Anderson’s career, her name was notably absent from the production. She didn’t consent to or endorse the series, which means that, nearly 30 years after she and her then-husband, Tommy Lee’s home movies have been stolen and distributed to the tune of over 75 million dollars in sales in its first year alone, according to rolling stone — not a dollar she says she received — more Hollywood forces were profiting from her stolen personal property and trauma. Anderson also hasn’t commented on the series, but she shares her feelings about the project — and many other topics, including her stolen tape, marriages and media misconceptions — known in an upcoming documentary from the Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Ryan White (The case against 8, The gardians). Title Pamela, a love story, the ruthless documentary chronicles Pamela’s complicated journey from a small Canadian town to Playboy pin-up to ’90s icon to unlikely Broadway star – plus all the romances in between.

Ryan, the famous filmmaker behind this year Good night opy, a documentary about the Mars space rover, says he generally has little interest in doing celebrity documentaries.

“I feel like a lot of them are about brand management or selling a product, whatever it is. And Pamela is the opposite of that,” he says, revealing that the actor sat with him for his no-makeup interviews and answered his questions for hours. “From the start, she was like, ‘You can ask me anything. I will talk about anything. I will be nothing but honest with you about all of this.

Pamela Anderson also gave the filmmaker decades of movies and diaries — chronicling his love life, his career, and his children’s coming of age — without even seeing them first. “The infamous stolen tape, which we always take care to call ‘the stolen tape’ and not the ‘sex tape,’ was just one of hundreds of hours they filmed,” White says, making reference to Pamela and Tommy. “There is no calculation with how [Pamela] think about stuff like that. It’s just about being raw and honest, for better or for worse. It made for a very moving film and I’m really grateful to have been able to work with someone like that.

Ryan says Pamela’s sons, Brandon, 26, and Dylan, 24, convinced her “to tell her story on her own terms.” They adore their mother and really hate seeing her story told by other people in a way that they believe is not authentic. Pamela, by nature, is an incredibly open and honest person. Maybe that’s why Pamela got burned so much in life, but I also think that’s what’s so adorable and infectious about her.
