Megan Thee Stallion’s ex-friend Kelsey Harris is granted immunity

A twist has come in Tory Lanez’s trial, as Megan Thee Stallion’s ex-friend Kelsey Harris refused to answer a question about Tory’s actions the night of the shooting, despite her has apparently been granted immunity from prosecution. Harris also denied seeing Tory shoot Megan.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, Harris appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court to testify in the trial of Tory Lanez for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion on July 12, 2020. In opening statements on Monday, Dec. 12, the prosecution said that she would. naming Tory Lanez as the shooter. However, Harris’ testimony was anything but cut and dry.

Senior Law and Crime Journalist Megann Cuiff covers the case live and reported that Kelsey tried to invoke her Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination when asked if Tory Lanez had threatened to kill her, as she had previously said, despite the immunity that would have been granted in this case.

“Harris’ attorney told Judge Herriford this morning that Harris planned to invoke her 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination, but prosecutors granted her immunity, so she is testifying,” Cuniff tweeted. “But Kelsey really struggled when Assistant District Attorney Kathy Ta asked her if Tory had threatened to shoot her while they were in the Escalade, before Megan came out and got shot. She didn’t want to answer.”

Harris not answering the question seems a little odd since his statements cannot be used to charge him with a crime. However, Harris reportedly declined to respond. When asked why she didn’t answer the question, Harris reportedly replied “It’s just, I don’t know.”

“[District Attorney Kathy Ta] asked Kelsey about having to testify in front of Tory and if it bothered her, and if she didn’t want to be here,” Cuniff tweeted. “’I don’t know – I don’t mind,’ Kelsey said of Tory’s presence. ‘I, I don’t want to be here.'”

Ta reminded Harris that she previously said in an interview with the district attorney that Tory Lanez threatened her with violence just before the shooting.

Cuniff added: “DA Kathy Ta had a recording of a previous interview with Kelsey in which she was talking about Tory threatening to shoot her, and she asked if she could use it to try and jog Kelsey’s memory at the witness stand, but Kelsey’s response doesn’t have “I don’t legally allow it…For typical memory refreshes, the witness indicates to the attorney that yes, if you show me my memory might be refreshed. But Kelsey said no such thing to Ta. She clearly does not. I do not wanna talk about it.”

Tory Lanez’s defense team made it clear during opening statements that they would lay out a theory that would put the shot on Harris, not Tory. Harris flatly denied shooting Megan during her testimony, but did not confirm that she saw Tory Lanez with a gun, according to Los Angeles Times journalist James Quely.

She also denied being offered $1 million by Tory to keep the shooting quiet, as testified by Megan. Additionally, Harris said she was not entirely truthful when she first interviewed investigators.

” Critical, [Harris] would not confirm that she saw Lanez with the gun (which she said in the recorded interview) or that Lanez threatened to shoot her (which she said in the recorded interview). Tapes were played in court,” Queally reported. “Harris says she’s been dealing with postpartum depression and a recent death in the family and her ‘spirit isn’t there right now.’ She also denied that Lanez offered her silent money (which Megan alleged he did to the tune of $1 million yesterday.).”

The judge decided that the interview could not be used as evidence.

Yesterday Megan Thee Stallion took to the stage and gave a moving testimonial where she recounted the heartbreaking night she was allegedly shot by Tory Lanez following an argument between the trio. She testified that Tory shot her after she got out of the vehicle we were riding in Los Angeles and promised her $1 million to shut up. She also talked about the toll the whole situation is taking on her.

“I wish he had killed me if I had known I would have to go through this,” she reportedly said on the stand.

Tory Lanez has been charged with one count of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner to cause bodily harm. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
