Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights a real Christmas treat | Entertainment/Life

If seeing the Christmas lights is an essential part of your family’s vacation experience, this is the perfect road trip.

The Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights takes you through seven cities or city pairs in the central and northern regions of the state, each stop decorated to perfection, and various Christmas festivities and shopping and dining experiences. Pick and choose or make it a multi-day/night adventure if you want to visit all seven zones – Shreveport-Bossier, Minden, Ruston, Monroe-West Monroe, Logansport, Natchitoches and Alexandria-Pineville.

The respective tourist offices of the trail even have a strategy.

“Destinations along our trail are strategically selected to ensure that every city has another destination within an hour’s drive,” says Jerrica Bennett, public relations/digital content manager at Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Office. “However, a great way to group them together if you’re trying to get as many as you can would be to drive the I-20 corridor hitting Monroe-West Monroe, Ruston, Minden, and Shreveport-Bossier. Or you can go on the I-49 route and visit Shreveport, Logansport, Natchitoches, and Alexandria/Pineville. Another way is to divide them into north and south, with I-20 cities being north and Logansport, Natchitoches, and Alexandria/Pineville being south.

Although the trail has been in operation for over 30 years, this is Ruston and Logansport’s first year.

“Downtown Ruston is a beautifully lit destination with exciting events like their ‘Lincoln Lights Up the Pines’ featuring vintage campers decorated for the season,” Bennett said. “Logansport is a few miles from Shreveport, and their Festival of Lights on the Sabine River is a very popular stop for visitors that you can experience on foot or by car.”

While she can’t speak for all trail towns, Bennett reports that just one event, “Christmas in Roseland,” draws about 15,000 people a year, while “Rockets Over the Red” also draws a few. thousands of people.

Christmas in Roseland is a walk-only event at the American Rose Center, 8877 Jefferson Paige Road, Shreveport. Check out the twinkling lights, dozens of lighted displays, giant community Christmas cards, nightly entertainment and photos with Santa. https://www.rose.org/christmas-in-roseland
