Lifetime’s ‘Gwen Shamblin: Starving For Salvation’

Lifetime’s latest film, Ripped From The Headlines, is Gwen Shamblin’: Hungry for Salvation. This is based on a true story.

Gwen Shamblin: Hungry for Salvation stars Jennifer Gray (dirty dance, Grey’s Anatomy) and Vincent Walsh (Billy the kid, Cheek).

Gregory Petit (Wrath: A Tale of Seven Deadly Sins, The story of Gabby Petito), and Richard Blaney (Secrets of a Sailor’s Wife, Landry family of V. C. Andrews) wrote the screenplay, with John L’Ecuyer (Happy Swissmas, detectives) to manage.

What is lifespan Gwen Shamblin: Hungry for Salvation About?

According to The Futon ReviewerGwen Shamblin Lara (Grey) is a “controversial religious leader and Christian food guru who has positioned herself as God’s prophetess and preached the virtues of thinness”.

Gwen was the founder of the Tennessee-based Remnant Fellowship Church and the Weigh Down Workshop. This organization was a successful Christian diet program. This program promoted “the virtue of a slim waist and the power of prayer to lose weight.”

Soon, Gwen’s church spread across the United States. She amassed a lot of power and money and ruled the church with an “iron fist as a leader”. Additionally, she created a character that was considered “larger than life.” This included her physical presence, with her tall, teased blonde hair.

Her power and ego grew so great that she told church members to abandon anyone in their life who was not a member of the church. Also, she banished those who became overweight.

Worst of all, she threatened legal action for anyone who left the church or threatened to reveal anything about the church. She also “recommended strict punishment of those who disobeyed the principles of the church.”

However, everything ended tragically. In May 2021, Gwen, her husband Joe, and others died in a plane crash that Joe piloted. It happened shortly after takeoff.
