DRY shampoo is a godsend on days when you don’t have time to wash your hair.

But what if the regular drugstore version no longer works and you crave something more natural? Well, the TikTok beauty community is raving about a homemade cornmeal dry shampoo.

There have been countless tutorials and positive reviews on this cheap hack – but is it really any good? Does it even compare to the store bought twin?

A beauty enthusiast, Alyssa Marie Pena (@alyssamariepenaa), from the United States, decided to see for herself and shared her thoughts on the popular social media platform.

“My hair is getting super greasy, probably like the third day without washing,” Alyssa explained in her video before dabbing a brush in the homemade mixture.

As the TikTok user has dark hair, she had also added some cocoa powder to make it slightly darker.

For a more even application without a lot of residue, Alyssa divided her hair into several sections and went through with the fluffy brush.

She then waited about five minutes before gently brushing out her locks – and it’s safe to say that Alyssa was stunned with the results.

Not only did the DIY dry shampoo soak up all the oils, but the inexpensive trick also gave her hair plenty of volume.

Although she admitted she went overboard with the top section, Alyssa gave the hack a very positive review, giving it a rating of ’10/10′.

But while she praised the cornmeal mix, social media users were less than impressed – many felt she should have just jumped in the shower.

One commented, “Girl day 3, just wash it off. »

A professional in the field advised: “As a hairdresser, the best tip is to use dry shampoo at night before bed so that it soaks in while you sleep.”

“Just use baby powder, don’t put food on your hair,” reads another recommendation.

“See but I don’t know how I feel about my hair smelling like coconut powder,” one TikTok was unsure.

However, if you’re loyal to dry shampoo, keep reading, because a beauty fan recently revealed the right way to spray it — and it makes all the difference.

Nicole, who to her 54,000 TikTok fans is known for her hair tutorials, took to social media, where she shared the tip in a video titled “One of my dry shampoo secrets the best guarded”.

Most of us tend to spray product directly onto the top layer of our hair — and if that’s you, Nicole urged us to stop making that mistake.

Instead, she demonstrated, start by parting your hair and taking a small section in the middle.

While holding it and pointing it to the other side, take your favorite dry shampoo and spray it directly on the roots.

“You’ll keep taking sections in your head.

“When you go down, it doesn’t matter how thick or how big the sections are.

“And when you flip your hair, it gives you so much volume,” she said before running through with her fingers.

Sharing the hack, Nichole claimed it would make mixing the powder “much easier” and you wouldn’t get white spots on your head.

”The next time you use dry shampoo, try this trick!”
