the Chix with Stix the knitters, a guest audience, meet at 10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Piedmont Arts to work on their individual projects. The cost is $5. The next one is December 27.

the Virginia Foothills Quilt Guild meets the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. and the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Piedmont Arts.

Oldskool will perform from 7-9:30 p.m. on December 30 for the Cascade School Community Center Music and Dance, at 3561 Huntington Trail, Cascade. Admission is $8. For New Year’s Eve, the Silver Eagles Band will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be no dancing on December 23. The next groups will be: January 6, Oldskool; January 13, Woody Powers and Midnite Express; January 20, Oldskool; January 27, Silver Eagles.

First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville a Spencer Kroger, organist, providing Christmas music for Advent from 12-12.30 p.m. today.

The Shelton Brothers and Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a New Year’s Eve Dec. 31 at the Fire Department, 17815 AL Philpott Hwy. The groups Two Young Two Old, Hubert Lawson and the Bluegrass Country Boys and The Shelton Brothers will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share; drinks will be offered. Admission is $5.

The old-fashioned dance group Gap Civil from Sparta, North Carolina will perform beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, January 13 for Musical evening at Spencer-Penn (475 Spencer-Penn Road, Spencer). Doors open at 5 p.m. Concessions, including hot dogs and barbecue, will be sold.

The Spencer-Penn Center will host a sock jump from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on February 12. Refreshments will be served and games will be set up. A DJ will play music.

“Tour, music and more”, every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bassett Ruritan Club on Philpott Dam Road, is a fun and relaxing time for people to come together to play games, solve puzzles, do crafts and play tower. Feel free to bring something to do or share.
