Wear your 1920s regalia on January 16 at a temporary “speakeasy” dinner hosted by the American/Canadian Snowbirds Club, and could win a prize for your attire, as well as your insight into guessing where a deceased gangster stored his loot.
The Snowbirds Club is hosting a “Funeral for a Gangster” dinner theater at Inverness Moose Lodge building 2112 at 221 S. Haid Terrace, Lecanto, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and dinner served at 6:30 p.m.
Charles Niski, whose Under Siege Enterprises is staging the show, said the play was “awesome fun. It’s a mix of “My Cousin Vinny”, meets “Good Fellas”, meets “The Untouchables”.

The show invites audiences to participate in guessing where shot mobster Vito “The Gut” Marzetti has kept a key that will unlock his ill-gotten funds.
Snowbirds Club president Linda Houston Pribble said the show was a fundraiser for the club. The club’s board decided to host the show after Houston Pribble saw some of the cast perform and was favorably impressed.
Niski, whose band are performing the show again at the Valerie Theater in Inverness from January 27-29, said he was delighted to work with community groups and businesses who would like to put on a play to raise money or simply to have fun. He can be contacted at [email protected] Tickets for Valerie’s show are on www.valerietheatre.org.
But if you want a bacon and chicken dinner wrap complete with onion rings and cake to precede your theatrical experience, the American/Canadian club production Snowbird is where you should head.
Houston Pribble explained that the Snowbirds Club hosts three parties during snowbird season, including a fundraiser in January, a Valentine’s Day event and a picnic in March.
Anyone can join the club. You don’t have to be American or Canadian. There are about 75 paying members, including about five Canadians, and club members participate in activities such as euchre, golf and shuffleboard, Houston Pribble said.
The January 16 play at Inverness Moose Lodge includes a cash bar, raffle for a ‘basket of booze’, door prizes and prizes for the best-dressed couple who show up in 1920s clothing.
Tickets are $25 per person, nonrefundable, and must be purchased by Dec. 31 by calling Houston Pribble at 352-563-0140. Club membership information is also available by calling Houston Pribble.
