In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shameless actor Cameron Monaghan stressed the priority of giving Cal a “satisfying bow in games” when asked to play Cal in a live-action project:

“It was really amazing to do that in the video game space because I think games are vastly underexplored and underutilized, and only really getting their due right now – people are watching games and see that they’re amazing and moving and meaningful. So my priority right now is making sure we have a satisfying arc in the games.”

Monaghan also reiterated his love for the character, that it was a joy to play him. “during the last years,” and that it is “somebody guess” as to what the future holds for everyone’s favorite scrapper:

“What is happening or where star wars someone wants to go from there, but I can say that I love Cal and it’s been a joy to find him over the past few years. So we’ll see.”

Monaghan was also asked if there would be any “burning questions” addressed in the Fallen order after. After joking that they wanted to go to his barber and where he got all his signature ponchos, Monaghan shared how he wanted to explore an older Cal who was exposed to “years of fighting in a hopeless situation” and teased of the survivor more mature and darker tone:

“I wanted to see what it was like for Cal as he got older, and what a number of years of fighting in dire straits would be like for the character. How does that change his view of the world? How does that does it change the way he interacts with people How does this affect his decision making These are all questions we started asking while we were doing the first [game]then to be able to explore a mature story with Cal – a story that I would say is more difficult, darker.”
