Adele’s Braided Updo Is The Perfect Blend Of Modern And Classic Aesthetics

Adele’s Las Vegas residency is well underway, but apparently it’s just getting started when it comes to killer looks on stage. Along with showing off her undeniable talent, the “Weekends with Adele” concert series was yet another opportunity for the star to show off her classic sense of style. For each of the first five shows, Adele dazzled in a variety of black dresses accompanied by Old Hollywood beauty looks with modern touches and twists. In her last performance, Adele’s braided bun and ’60s-inspired glam strayed from her usual voluminous styles — and that’s precisely why the look deserves a standing ovation.

The singer has stuck to a signature aesthetic since bursting onto the music scene nearly 15 years ago, but somehow she never gets old. Her sleek black clothes and cat-eye makeup are not only representative of her soulful sound, but have become mainstays of her look — a trademark that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. When she took the stage in Vegas last weekend, Adele appeared in a custom off-the-shoulder black velvet dress designed by Harris Reed for Nina Ricci. But it wasn’t just any old LBD – it featured voluminous circular sleeves in black tulle with sequin polka dot embroidery and Swarovski crystals. Her glamor further enhanced the dress which gave her an absolutely stunning look.

Hairstylist Sami Knight gave the star a super sleek bun with a center parting, much like the “snatch” hair trend recently popularized by models like Bella Hadid. Instead of the usual twist, however, Knight created a large braid and secured it in a circular shape. Knight worked with Adele throughout her residency and for the first few nights, styled her blonde hair in the singer’s usual voluminous blowouts as well as a gorgeous mid-up style, so the sleek braided bun was a change of pace refreshing.

For the rest of her look, singer Anthony Nguyen’s makeup artist was inspired by retro trends. Along with her must-have bronze and nude lipstick contours, Nguyen created a ’60s look with a cat eye and liner along her crease. Her bold, fluffy brows and voluminous lashes completed the ultra-glam moment. Although she’s been rocking black nails since the summer, Adele’s black manicure (courtesy Kimmie Kyees) still packs a punch, completing the simple yet timeless and elegant look.

Considering Adele’s residency runs until March 2023, there’s sure to be a slew of amazing stage looks in store, meaning your stash of winter beauty inspo will never run out.
