Acceptance versus self-acceptance: the paths to follow

“Acceptance” is a popular term in human psychology in which a person accepts or gives assent to a real situation and thereby acknowledges all the processes and conditions attached to it without wishing for any change, modification or protest.

In another explanation, it can also be explained as an agreement when something is offered by one company or party and another receives it becomes a sign of positive welcome, belonging, favor and approval. In this sense, this act of acceptance is automatically transformed into a contract and imposes several obligations on behalf of the proposer in the form and manner in which it is offered.

Outside of psychological parameters, the spiritual side defines acceptance as “surrender to the present,” which simply means that we have accepted all things without changing any facts about the current situation and there is no story attached and in both cases it is an acceptance. of the fact whatever the emotions – sad, scared, happy or too thoughtful.

It is believed to be necessary for good mental health. In the realm of psychological benefits, self-acceptance includes mood regulation, decreases depression, and increases positive emotions to combat the individual’s inabilities inside and out.

Opposite to this self-acceptance is an individual’s satisfaction or happiness with himself. In this sense, it is directly linked to the awareness of one’s strengths as well as one’s weaknesses, based on a realistic approach, talent and abilities. This quality of man is beneficial for mental health because it involves self-understanding, followed by self-acceptance. In this context, it is also said to be good for clinical psychology and positive psychology because it enables a person to change by stopping, criticizing and resolving their other faults. In other words, while acceptance means allowing all things, thoughts, feelings and urges to come and go without struggling with them, self-acceptance is an awareness of one’s shortcomings, one’s awareness , its strength as well as its weaknesses and therefore, better for the physical and the mental. health of an individual.

In any case, when we compare acceptance and self-acceptance, the former is an acceptance of the offer as presented by a company or entity without considering the pros and cons, while the acceptance of self is a conscious assessment of oneself and accepting it with all shortcomings, strengths and abilities based on facts and reality. By virtue of this, there is no such compulsion or compromise in case of self-acceptance and hence it sounds good in spiritual meanings and further study.

This is why the ancient Greeks preferred self-acceptance to acceptance, and the study of “self” was far ahead of several contemporary theories, therapy and the developmental approach in particular, while working on mental health, personality theory, self-development work and lifespan theories. Even in everyday life today, the concept of self-acceptance is more recognized than acceptance because the former has 1. a positive self-attitude, 2. recognizes all aspects, including the good like the bad ones, 3. It contains a clear identity and has no confusion, and 4. It believes in reality and facts inside and out.

While under acceptance, people generally accept the given outcome without comment and regardless of previous events, but only approval is important and in most cases there is no room for resistance.

However, the concept of acceptance is commonly used in the field of religion where acceptance of faith or religious rules/dicta is obligatory, and in the treatment of alcoholism. This formula is beneficial for dealing with a disturbed person when they are upset by a person, place, thing or situation. In context, the concept of self-acceptance is better because it does not allow us to be unhappy; or having feelings of isolation, loneliness, and others that negate our overall health and immune system, and are therefore a boon to the physical and mental health of humanity.

Related to the concept of acceptance is the aspect of social acceptance which is defined as the fact that most people, in order to fit in with others, look and act like them and, in other words, it can also refer to the ability to accept or tolerate differences or diversity in other people or groups of people. In today’s world, it is a common term for people of all ages, children, adolescents and adults as well as people with intellectual disabilities, as social acceptance is a prerequisite for leading a life. normal in society, where people of all ages get a lot of interactions with other people who live together. Beneath it is created a vast network of welcoming and tolerant diverse things to facilitate life in all areas.

This journey of social acceptance begins in early childhood when a child tries to mingle with other children and also changes their attitudes and habits just to fit in or fit in. In the process, they copy other people’s hairstyle, clothing patterns, as well as other social habits, to lead a normal life. The same is true for adults and even the elderly when faced with social humiliation or insult in public. Apart from these normal cases, social acceptance plays a vital role in the treatment of mentally ill or disabled people who need the support of individuals and groups in society, and society in general needs to take care of sick people of all ages to make the social environment supportive and healthy; however, sometimes it requires certain conditions that must be met.

In addition to the words – acceptance and self-acceptance, there is the issue of belief that affects our life under scrutiny while being accepted by individuals, especially, in a religious context, also applied to Islam and to Christianity. For Islam, more appropriate words are “surrender” and “voluntary submission,” while for Christianity, acceptance is based on accepting Jesus of Nazareth as the Christ and the will of God. While detailing acceptance, it can be of two types: express and implied. In express acceptance, persons normally agree to all the terms attached to the offer in an overt manner and explicitly give their consent in favor without making any modification to the offer, but in implied acceptance persons express their intention to consent indirectly by demonstrating or indicating an act of consent. However, in comparison, the concept of self-acceptance is better and useful for the common man in a society because it 1. Increases the feeling of freedom, 2. Decreases the fear of failure, 3. Increases the volume of independence, 4. Means less desire for approval from others, 5. Becomes kinder when mistakes occur, 6. Leads a self-centered life, 7. Takes more risks without worrying about consequences,
