As a curly girl, there are many times my hair frustrates me. Humidity will turn me into a frizz monster, planning a wash day requires the same careful attention NASA has when planning a mission, and even if I do everything perfectly well, there’s still a 50/50 chance that my hair just decides not to. cooperate. But even on the ugliest day, having curly hair also gave me a gift: the supreme satisfaction of squeezing a handful of hair mousse.
Hair mousse isn’t just for curly hair. “Lather is the golden child of stylers because it offers a variety of results that one might normally seek with multiple products,” says Pattern Beauty Brand Educator Ebony Bomani. It reduces frizz, adds definition and enhances your natural texture. If you have very fine hair that falls flat when trying to add volume, incorporating a mousse may do the trick. Discover here the 12 best hair mousses that you will love to incorporate into your routine.

What is hair mousse used for?
“Mousse is the golden child of hairstylists because it offers a variety of results that one would normally seek with multiple products,” says Bomani. “It provides hold, style memory, volume and body. Plus, the mousse helps define curls, reduce frizz and seal out humidity.
“The foam is usually in the form of thick foam,” adds Izquierdo. “It’s typically applied from roots to ends, combed through hair, and blow-dried. The mousse provides hold, style memory, lift, and bounce.”
Does the mousse leave hair sticky or crunchy?
“Traditional aerosol foams, especially those designed to add bulk, are often based on alcohol and polymers. This allows the formula to lift and hold for a voluminous look,” says Izquierdo. “However, these ingredients, if not offset with moisturizing ingredients, could lead to a dry or stiff feeling. It is important to look for mousses with hair moisturizers to help counteract these other materials.
Which hair types benefit the most from mousse?
“Whether you use it for blow-drying, finger waves, defining curls, twists, braids, coils or roller sets, the mousse is lightweight and offers flexible hold. Therefore, it is beneficial for all hair types,” says Bomani. “However, I particularly like the mousse for finer hair types because of the volume it gives.”
